Companionship (3/1-4/21, 2025)

사랑하는 그린랜드가족들에게 새해 인사드립니다.

드디어 2025년 새로운 한 해가 시작되었네요. 물론 그저 또 다른 한 해, 그 저 또 다른 하루라고 생각하시는 분들도 계실 수 있지만, 매일 매일 매 순간 매 순간 새로운 것을 주시며 새로운 일을 행하시는 하나님(사43:18-20)을 기억하며 오늘도 내일도 매일 매일 새로운 기회와 새로운 일들을 경험하시며 하나님과 동행하시는 한 해가 되기를 소망하며 기도합니다!

<1월 주제: 동행: 같이 걷기>

1월에는 <동행>이라는 주제로 말씀을 나누려고 합니다. 신앙생활을 다양하게 표현할 수 있겠지만, 하나님과의 동행, 그리고 하나님의 사람들과의 동행이라고 표현할 수 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 통해 하나님과 동행하고, 하나님의 말씀을 나누며 하나님의 사람들과 동행하는 것이 신앙생활이라고 할 수 있기 때문입니다. 이렇게 수직적으로는 하나님과 함께 그리고 수평적으로는 하나님의 사람들과 같이 걷는 것이 균형잡힌 신앙생활이라고 할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 수직과 수평의 균형잡힌 신앙생활을 통해 십자가의 흔적을 남기며 살아가는 삶을 살아갈 수 있기를 소망합니다.

<불균형적인 신앙생활>

목회를 하다보면 "신앙생활은 하나님과의 관계만 잘 하면 되지 않나요?"라는 질문을 받을 때가 있습니다. 그럴 때면 그분에게 이런 질문을 합니다. "교회가 화려한 교회건물과 교회시설을 확장해가면서 교인들만을 위한 왕국을 만들어가는 교회에 대해 어떻게 생각하시나요?" 지금의 한국교회가 사회로부터 지탄을 받는 이유는 교회만의 왕국을 만들어왔기 때문입니다. 세상을 섬기며 세상에서 빛과 소금이 되는 것(마5:13)이 '참된 교회'인데 자신들만의 왕국을 만들어간다면 하나님께서 의도하신 교회는 아니라는 생각이 들 것입니다.

<신실한 신앙생활의 열매: 이웃사랑>

개인적인 신앙생활도 마찬가지 입니다. 자신을 하나님의 성전이라고 생각하는 사람들이 자기 자신과 하나님과의 관계만 좋으면 된다는 생각으로 신앙생활하면서 주변 사람과의 관계를 신경을 쓰지 않고 산다면 자신들만의 왕국을 만드는 교회와 다를 바가 없는 것입니다. 하나님은 하나님과의 관계의 회복만을 위해 하나님의 사람들을 부르지 않으셨습니다. 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 이웃을 사랑하라고, 하나님과의 좋은 관계를 더 많은 이웃에게 흘려보내는 삶을 살아갈 것을 말씀하고 계십니다 (마22:37-40). 신앙생활에 있어서 하나님을 향한 사랑과 믿음의 열매는 내 옆에 있는 이웃과의 관계에서 나타나는 것입니다. 

<균형잡힌 신앙생활: 하나님사랑 & 이웃사랑>

대부분 우리는 하나님과의 관계를 발전시키고 깊게하기 위해 말씀도 보고 기도도 하는 신앙생활을 해왔을 것입니다. 그렇다면 이제는 이웃과의 관계를 발전시키고 깊게하는 일을 해야할 때라고 생각합니다. 물론 단 하루에 되는 일은 아닙니다. 또한 모든 이웃들과 그런 관계를 만들 수도 없습니다. 그렇다고 포기할 일도 아닙니다. 우리가 우리의 인생에서 또는 신앙여정에서 찾아야 할 사람은 바로 하나님께서 여러방법으로 주시는 은혜를 함께 나눌 수 있는 "동행자들"이 필요한 것입니다. 삶의 기쁨도 슬픔도 함께 나눌 수 있는 "영적인 동반자들"이 있어야 하는 것입니다 (고전12:26).

2025년 1월에 "동행"이라는 주제를 묵상하며 나와 함께 영적인 여정을 동행할 수 있는 동반자들을 발견하는 은혜가 있기를 소망하며 기도합니다.

A Warm New Year’s Greeting to My Beloved Greenland Family

Happy New Year! Finally, 2025 has begun. While some may see this as just another year or simply another day, I encourage you to remember the God who declares, “See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-20). May this year be filled with new opportunities, fresh experiences, and a deepening journey with the Lord each and every day. I pray that as you walk into this new season, you walk hand in hand with God, embracing His new work in your life.

January Theme: Walking Together in Fellowship

This January, we will reflect on the theme of "Companionship: Walking Together." The life of faith can be expressed in many ways, but it is fundamentally about walking with God and walking with His people. Through His Word, we walk with God vertically; by sharing His Word, we walk with His people horizontally. Together, these dimensions form a balanced life of faith.

It is in this harmonious rhythm—walking both vertically with God and horizontally with others—that we leave the mark of the cross in our lives. My prayer for each of us is to live a life that reflects the cross: a life of connection, love, and purpose.

The Danger of an Imbalanced Faith

In ministry, I am often asked, “Isn’t it enough to focus solely on my relationship with God?” To this, I respond with a question of my own: “What do you think about churches that focus only on building their own grandeur while neglecting to serve others?”

Unfortunately, some churches have built kingdoms for themselves, expanding their facilities while failing to be the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13). True churches reflect God’s heart by serving and blessing the world. Likewise, an individual faith that only prioritizes one’s relationship with God while ignoring relationships with others is equally imbalanced.

The Fruit of Faith: Love for Others

Faith is not a private fortress. Just as God did not call His people solely to restore their relationship with Him, He also commanded them to love their neighbors as themselves (Matthew 22:37-40). Our love and devotion to God must overflow into the lives of others.

The evidence of genuine faith is seen in how we love those around us. If we focus only on our personal spirituality while neglecting relationships, we risk building a kingdom of self instead of living as God’s temple. Faith, when fully lived out, bridges heaven and earth—uniting love for God with love for our neighbors.

A Balanced Faith: Love for God and Love for Neighbors

Many of us have spent years cultivating our relationship with God through prayer and Scripture. Now is the time to extend that same devotion to deepening our relationships with others. Building meaningful connections won’t happen overnight, and we won’t be able to connect deeply with everyone. But we are called to discover and nurture “spiritual companions”—those whom God places in our lives to share in His grace and walk with us on this journey of faith.

Spiritual companions are those with whom we can share our joys and sorrows, who rejoice when we rejoice and weep when we weep (1 Corinthians 12:26). As we reflect on this month’s theme of “Companionship: Walking Together,” I pray that each of us will find the spiritual companions God has prepared for us.
