우리 그린랜드교회의 다음 세대들이 다시 학교생활을 시작합니다. 하나님의 사람으로 하나님의 사람답게 학교생활하도록 기도합니다. 그저 지식을 축적하는 것으로 만족하지 않고 하나님께서 주시는 지혜로 습득한 지식을 연결하는 은혜를 주옵소서

친구와의 관계, 선생님과의 관계에도 은혜를 주셔서 관계를 통하여 거룩하고도 선한 영향력을 흘려보내는 삶이 되게 하옵소서.

새롭게 시작하는 학생들의 삶에 아름다운 만남을 허락하셔서

그들의 안목과 가치관과 세계관이 깊어지고, 넓어지는 은혜를 부어주옵소서. 저희들은 늘 함께 할 수 없사오나 성령께서 늘 동행하여 주실 줄 믿고 예수님의 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.

Our Father, God

As the next generation of Greenland Church begins a new school year, we pray that they may live as true children of God, carrying themselves in a way that reflects their identity in Christ.

Grant them not only the pursuit of knowledge, but also the wisdom from above to connect and apply what they learn through the grace You provide.

Bless their relationships with friends and teachers, so that through these good and healthy connections

they may become a source of holy and life-giving influence.

In this new beginning, grant them beautiful encounters and divine opportunities, that their vision, values, and worldview may be broadened and deepened by Your grace.

Though we cannot always be with them, we trust that Your Holy Spirit will walk with them every step of the way. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

중고등부아이들의 자의반 타의반으로 떠났던 KOSTA TX로의 낯선 여행을 하나님의 은혜가운데에 잘 마쳤다. 이런 청소년집회에 경험이 없는 아이들이 잘 적응할까? 힘들어하면 어쩌지? 때로는 오히려 반감을 갖게되면 어쩌지??? 라는 오만가지 생각을 하면서 시작되었던 여행이었다.

<하나의 목적을 위해 다양한 메뉴로 탄탄하게 준비된 집회>

첫 날 휴스턴관광은 성공적으로(?) 마무리할 수 있었고, 별 이슈없이 코스타집회장소로 이동했다. 그 다음부터는 온전히 하나님께 맡기고 헌신하여 섬기는 스텝들과 강사님들의 손으로 넘겨야 했다. 온 마음과 정성과 힘을 다해 참여하지 않을 수 없는 찬양집회, 탄탄한 말씀에 기초한 말씀 집회들, 아이들의 끼를 마음껏 발산할 수 있는 코스탄 스테이지, 그리고 틈만 나면 제공되는 엄청한 간식거리들이 모두 일동 단결 합체하여 아이들의 몸과 마음과 영혼에 하나님의 사랑으로 채웠던 집회였다.

<집에 돌아가서 터진 이야기보따리>

집회를 마치고 휴스턴공항에서 보스턴공항까지는 그동안 쌓였던 피로때문인지 해드뱅잉을 하며 잠을 자다가 부모님들을 만나 집으로 별 말없이 헤어졌다. 그런데, 부모님들이 모여있는 카톡방에 글이 올라오기 시작한다.

"우리 아들은 너무 재미있었다고 차안에서 신나게얘기하고 있어요~ㅎㅎㅎ"

"우리 아들도 지금까지 떠들다가 이제 잘 준비중입니다~ ㅎㅎㅎ"

"목사님이 처음이자 마지막일 수 있다는 말씀이 기억나지만...아이들은 내년에도 보내달라고 하네요~"

기우로 시작해던 아이들과의 휴스턴여행은 이렇게 기쁨과 감격과 기대감으로 마무리했다! 휴.... 이 모든 과정을 다양한 감정들과 함께 다이내믹한 여정으로 이끌어주신 하나님께 감사할 뿐이다!

우리들의 자녀들이 예수님을 더 사랑하고 에수님을 닮아가 세상을 더윽 아름답게 만드는 꿈이 사라지지 않는다. 우리들의 자녀들이 조금이라도 하나님을 더 알아가고 하나님을 더 사랑할 수만 있다면 뭐든지 해주고 싶다. 하나님의 말씀으로 변화된 한 사람의 영향력은 우리가 상상하는 그 이상이기 때문이다.

보스턴에서 휴스턴으로

그래서, 보스턴에서 휴스턴으로 날아간다~ Youth KOSTA가 열리기 때문이다. 그린랜드에서 3명, 무지개에서 3명, 총 6명의 아이들과 함께 날아간다. 기본적으로 이 아이들의 인생에 잊혀지지 않을 영적인 추억을 만들어주고 싶기 때문이고, 믿음의 친구들을 소개해주고 싶고, 믿음의 또래들과 하나님을 맘껏 찬양하고 예배하고, 쒼나게 놀게 해주고 싶기 때문이다.

복음의 나무를 위해 씨를 뿌리는 사람들

항공료며 등록비며 여행비여 적지 않은 비용이지만 이들의 믿음과 미래를 위해 투자하기로 결단한 부모님들을 존경하며 축복한다. 부모님들의 헌신과 기도와 응원과 지지는 분명이 이 아이들의 인생에 복음의 씨앗을 심을 것이다. 당장에는 새싹이나 줄기나 잎이 자라는 것이 보이지 않을지라도 이들이 장성하여 맺을 성령의 열매와 복음의 열매들을 상상만 하여도 기분이 좋아진다.

이번 한 주간동안 진행될 Youth Conference, KOSTA TX 에 부어주실 하나님의 은혜를 갈망하며 기도한다. 이런 동일한 마음을 가진 하나님의 동역자들도 함께 기도할 것을 믿어 의심치 않는다!!!

Fresh Expression Practitioners

In New England, there are practitioners who embrace the Fresh Expression of Churches movement. This arises from the reality that traditional churches continue to lose people for various reasons. Why do people leave existing churches? Perhaps it is due to organizational issues, systems, or hierarchical structures. But might it also be because churches neglect the very things they are truly called to do? To listen deeply to God’s heart, to discern the voices and contexts where God has placed us, to genuinely love people, to spend intentional time building meaningful relationships, to share the story of Jesus living within us, to form community authentically—these seemingly simple things often become overlooked, neglected, or lost in repetition. These fundamental values should never fall to the margins. Yet today, churches seem to prioritize other things above these essentials. It makes me wonder if we must urgently reclaim the passion for these foundational practices.

I express heartfelt gratitude to Michael Beck, who has faithfully served New England over the past year, working tirelessly toward restoring the essence of church in New England. And even though there may not be as many as one might hope, I deeply respect and support Rev. We Chang, who perseveres without abandoning the work God has entrusted to His people. My earnest prayer and hope remain: that New England may experience a powerful restoration of genuine Christianity, reclaiming the essence of the church and strengthening the foundational spirit of God’s people.

Greenland Avengers!!!

I express endless gratitude to the Greenland Avengers, who gave up their precious Saturday morning to serve God’s co-workers seeking to restore the essence of the gospel. These are truly people who embody the servant way of Jesus by loving and serving God's servants out of their genuine love for Him. My words alone fall short in capturing the depth of my appreciation for their sacrificial efforts. My sincere prayer and blessing is that, through their lives and acts of service, even more people will come to experience and understand the love of God. Thank you so, so much!

뉴잉글랜드에는 Fresh Expression of Churches을 Practice 하는 사람들이 있다. 기존의 교회가 어떤 이유에서든 사람들을 잃어가고 있기 때문이다. 사람들은 왜 기존 교회들을 떠나갈까? 조직? 시스템? 수직적 구조? 때문일 수도 있을 것이다. 그러나 교회가 정말 해야 할 일들을 소홀하기 때문이지 않을까? 하나님의 마음을 듣고, 나를 보내신 상황의 소리를 듣고, 그들을 사랑하고, 그들과 시간을 보내며 관계를 발전시키며, 내 안에 있는 예수님의 이야기를 나누고, 그들과 공동체를 이루며 이 단순한(?) 일들을 소중히 여기고, 포기하지 않고, 반복하지 않기 때문이지 않을까? 이런 가치들이 우선순위에서 밀려나지 않아야 하는데...지금의 교회들은 이런 것들보다 더 중요한 것들이 많아진 것 같다. 다시 이런 기본적인 것들을 소중히 여기며 이런 기초적인 것들에 대한 열정을 회복시켜야 하지 않을까...라는 생각을 하게 된다.

지난 1년동안 뉴잉글랜드에 교회의 본질을 회복하기 위해 섬겨온 Michael Beck 에게 감사하고, 지지하고 응원하는 사람이 생각보다(?) 적어도 하나님의 사람들이 해야할 일들을 포기하지 않고 걸어가시는 Wehyun Chang 목사님에게 존경의 마음을 표한다. 앞으로도 기독교의 본질, 교회의 본질, 하나님의 사람들의 기초력이 잘 회복하는 뉴잉글랜드가 되기를 소망하며 기도한다.

Amazing Greenland Avengers,

토요일 오전 황금같은 시간에 복음의 본질을 회복하고자 하는 하나님의 동역자들을 섬겨주신 그린랜드 어벤져스들에게 무한 감사한다. 하나님을 사랑하는 마음으로 하나님의 일꾼들을 사랑하며 섬기는 이들이야 말로 예수님의 섬김의 도를 살아내는 사람들이라 믿는다. 나의 제한된 언어로 이들의 수고에 감사할 수 없는 것이 아쉬울 뿐이다. 이들의 삶과 섬김을 통해 더 많은 사람들이 하나님의 사랑을 알아가기를 소망하며 축복하며 기도하지 않을 수 없다. 정말 정말 감사드립니다!!!

<Parental Love for Their Children>

Today, a family visited our church during the long Memorial Weekend to explore schools for their children and find a church where their children can grow in faith. Their trip was not just about academics but a purposeful journey to ensure their children are nurtured in both mind and spirit. It was a beautiful reminder that while a good education matters, cultivating faith is just as important. Seeing the parents’ dedication to balancing both their children’s studies and spiritual lives, I couldn’t help but feel the presence of the living God at work. 권사님, Hyunjin and Sua—let me treat you to something delicious next time!

<The Gratitude of Being Understood>

Our Greenland worship service includes both an English and a Korean sermon, stretching to about 90 minutes. Some may feel it’s long or repetitive. But those who understand both languages often say it’s “the same sermon, but with a different feeling.” They’ve shared that the English sermon feels more casual and conversational, while the Korean message conveys passion for the gospel and missions. Preaching in two languages each week is still a challenge for me and I haven’t fully adjusted—but knowing that someone recognizes the effort I’m putting in brought me great comfort and encouragement today.

<Meeting for the First Time, But It Felt Like a Reunion>

Today’s message was about how the Christian life is not just about listening or learning, but about living out what we hear, especially in our relationships—recognizing and cherishing those “missional moments.” It may have been the visitor’s first time hearing such a message, but they shared how they’ve always tried to live with that very heart in serving their church. That moment confirmed for me: when people share the same dream from God, even a first meeting can feel like a reunion. I was reminded again that God is still spreading His dream and continues to work through those who carry it in their hearts.

<The Fragrance of One Taught by a Great Pastor>

The visitor attends a church led by Rev. Jung-Ho Kim—whom I had the privilege of interviewing during my dissertation work. Though I didn’t have deep personal fellowship with him, I’ve always held deep respect for his intelligence and excellence in ministry. So I was curious what kind of members would come from such a pastor’s church. Listening to today’s visitor speak about the church, ministry, and missions, I could sense “the fragrance of a disciple nurtured by a great pastor.” I found myself dreaming again—that those in the church I serve might also be shaped into passionate people who carry the aroma of God’s dream.

While many were away enjoying the outdoors this Memorial Weekend, I am truly thankful that we were able to worship together here at our church. We’ll make sure to care for HJ and SA’s spiritual journey with love and guidance alongside our youth pastor. And next time you visit, we’ll be sure to prepare a, or maybe even a with Director Kim Hyun-Jung! Though it was our first meeting, it truly felt like reconnecting with an old friend. Thank you again.

<자녀를 향한 부모사랑>

오늘은 자녀들의 학교를 방문하고, 자녀들이 신앙생활을 할 교회를 찾아주기 위해 한 가족이 방문했습니다. 긴 Memorial Weekend을 이용해서 자녀들의 신앙생활을 위한 가족여행으로 온 가족이었습니다. 자녀들이 좋은 학교에서 공부를 잘 하는 것도 중요하지만, 신앙생활을 잘 하는 것도 이 가정에 아주 중요한 일임을 느낄 수 있었습니다. 자녀의 학업과 신앙을 균형있게 돌보는 부모님의 마음을 느끼며 여전히 살아계셔서 일하고 계신 하나님을 느낄 수 있어서 뿌듯한 만남이었습니다. 권사님, 현진와 수아 제가 맛있는거 사줄께요~ ㅎㅎ

<나름 애쓰는 마음을 알아주는 사람의 고마움>

그린랜드예배는 영어설교와 한글설교가 있어서 90분간 드려진다. 어쩌면 너무 길다는 느낌이 있을 수 있고, 같은 내용의 설교를 두 언어로 하니 반복된다는 느낌을 느낄 수 있다. 그런데 두 언어를 다 이해하는 사람은 일명 '같은 설교 다른 느낌'을 이야기한다. 영어로 설교할 때는 자연스럽고 캐주얼하게 소통하는 마음을 느끼고, 한국어로 설교할 때에는 복음과 선교적인 열정을 느낄 수 있었다는 이야기를 해주셨다. 매주 두 언어로 설교하는 것이 여전히 힘들고 적응이 안되지만, 어렵지만 나름 애쓰는 나의 마음을 알아주는 사람이 있다는 사실만으로 참 큰 위로를 얻는 시간이었다.

<처음만났지만 오랫만에 만난 느낌>

오늘은 그리스도인의 삶은 그저 듣기만 인생이 아니라 들은 말씀을 살아내어 누군가와의 관계에서 Missional Moment를 소중히 여기며 살아야 함에 대해 나눴다. 방문자에게는 당연히 처음 드는 메세지였을텐데, 본인도 평소에 그런 마음으로 교회를 섬기며 사역하고 있다는 이야기를 들으며, 처음 만나도 같은 꿈을 가지고 살아온 사람은 언제 어디서 만나도 하나님의 가족애를 나눌 수 있음을 확인하는 시간이었다. 역시 하나님의 꿈을 여전히 퍼지고 있음을 느낄 수 있었고, 하나님은 하나님의 꿈을 갖고 사는 사람들을 통하여 여전히 일하고 계심을 확인하는 시간이었다.

<훌륭한 목사님께 배운 사람의 향기>

현재 섬기고 있는 교회가 개인적으로 논문쓸 때에 인터뷰했던 Chongho Kim 께서 섬기시는 교회였다. 깊이 교제한 적은 없지만 평소에 스마트함과 탁월함을 지닌 목사님으로 존겸심을 갖고 있었던 터라 그 목사님께서 섬기는 교회 성도님들은 어떤 분들일까 궁금증이 있었던 터라 더욱 반갑게 만나 대화할 수 있었다. 역시, 교회와 사역과 선교에 대한 생각들을 들으니 '훌륭한 목사님께 배운 성도의 향기'가 났다. 내가 섬기는 교회에서도 '하나님의 꿈을 향한 열정의 향기'가 나는 하나님의 사람들이 세워지기를 다시 꿈꿔본다.
