<도미니카공화국 단기선교>를 다녀온 뒤 나의 일상으로 돌아와 첫 번째 모임은 역시 '먹는 모임'이다. ㅎㅎㅎ 두 번째 월요일은 남성들만의 조찬모임이다. 남자들끼리 모여서 무슨 이야기를 하나? 궁금해하시는 분들에게 질문을 받은 적이 있다. 한국남자들은 군대이야기, 축구이야기, 그리고 군대에서 축구한 이야기를 한다. 미국남자들도 군대이야기를 한다. 그리고 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화, 교회이야기부터 집관리하는 일상이야기까지 모두 나눈다. 여기서 미국인의 삶과 문화를 배운다. 여기가 마치 미국사회속에 들어가서 배우는 체험학습현장처럼 느껴지는 아침식사였다! ㅎㅎ <도미니카공화국>에서의 시간이 워낙 강력해서 그런지, 이런 일상으로 굉장히 오랫만에 돌아온 느낌이 든다!

Back to My Monthly Routine

The first gathering after returning from the Dominican Republic short-term mission trip is — of course — a eating gathering. lol The second Monday of the month is a men's breakfast meeting. I've actually been asked by curious people: "What do men even talk about when they get together?"

Korean men talk about their military service, soccer, and soccer they played during their military service. American men talk about their military service too. And then everything from politics, economics, society, culture, and church life all the way to everyday things like home maintenance. This is where I learn about American life and culture. That breakfast felt like a hands-on field experience — like actually stepping inside American society and learning from within! lol

Maybe it's because the time in the Dominican Republic was so powerful, but coming back to this kind of everyday routine felt like returning after a very, very long time away!

_Writing this because I'm genuinely glad to feel the familiar warmth of ordinary life again

계획표에 적어두지 않아도, 리마인더를 보내지 않아도,

자연스럽게 발걸음이 향하는 곳.

이제는 삶의 일부가 된 모임이다.

몇 명이 오든 상관없다.

그냥 만나서 밥 먹으면서 사는 얘기, 웃음, 그리고 수다!

일명 <남자들의 수다모임>.

it’s simply become a part of life.

It doesn’t matter how many come.

We just eat, chat about life, laugh,

and enjoy what we like to call our “Men’s Talk Fest.”

The Kind of Monday We Look Forward To

The phrase “Monday blues” doesn’t seem to apply anymore—at least not on the second Monday of each month. That Monday has become something we look forward to. A hearty breakfast, warm conversations, and the joy of simply being with people you can laugh with—these are more than enough to energize the start of a new week.

Thanks to this gathering, I now get to enjoy a proper American breakfast (officially!), and more importantly, I feel a growing sense of true brotherhood with the men of Greenland. Even in the midst of our busy lives, this time allows us to pause, check in on each other, and receive the refreshment we need to carry on with the week.

We haven’t even officially advertised this gathering yet, but it already feels like a group that would come together on its own—no announcements needed. In Korean culture, there’s a saying: _"If you eat together, you’re family."_ Meeting regularly once a month like this, it’s no exaggeration to say we’ve become _"sikgu"_—family. And honestly, it’s really starting to feel that way.

기다려지는 월요일 아침

"월요병"이라는 말이 무색할 정도로, 둘째 주 월요일은 기다려지는 월요일입니다. 맛있는 아침, 따뜻한 대화, 그리고 함께 웃을 수 있는 사람들이 있다는 것만으로도 새로운 한 주를 시작하는 힘이 됩니다. 이 모임 덕분에 공식적으로 제대로 된 미국식 아침식사도 하고, 그린랜드 남성들과 진정한 형제가 되어감을 느낍니다. 바쁜 일상 속에서도 잠시 멈춰 서로의 안부를 묻고, 다시 한 주를 살아갈 힘을 얻는 아주 좋은 Refreshment이 되었습니다~

이제 광고하지 않아도 (아직 안해봤지만) 말을 하지 않아도 자동으로 모일 것 같은 모임이 되었습니다. 한국문화로 바라볼 때 "같이 먹으면 <식구(가족)>이다" 한 달에 한 번 정기적으로 모여서 모일 정도의 가족이면 <식구> 혹은 <가족>이라고 불러도 손색이 없어보인다. 이제 제법 가족의 느낌이 물씬납니다.

“When Greenland Men Met Bethany Men”

The men of Greenland and Bethany gathered together for a shared breakfast.

In Korean, there is a word, **"식구" (shik-gu)**, which means "family." It is composed of two characters: "식" (shik), meaning "to eat," and "구" (gu), meaning "mouth." The idea behind this word is that those who eat together become family.

Although we serve in different churches, this gathering reminded us of the true spirit of <Connectional Ministry.> We were filled with joy, knowing that we could share a meal and experience the bond of family because of Jesus.

We look forward to seeing more men come together in the future to celebrate our unity as God's family!

그린랜드 남성들과 베다니 남성들이 만나 함께 아침식사를 했습니다. 한국말중에 "식구"라는 말이 있습니다. 먹을 "식" 입 "구" 함께 먹는 사람들이 가족이라는 의미입니다. 우리가 다른 교회를 섬기고 있지만, 이 것이 진정한 Connectional Minstry의 Spirit 이라는 생각을 해봅니다. 우리가 예수님 한 분때문에 이렇게 함께 식사하며 가족됨을 느낄 수 있어서 행복한 시간이었습니다~! 앞으로 더 많은 남성들이 함께 모여 하나님의 가족됨을 나눌 수 있기를 소망합니다~

This morning, we had our second Men’s Breakfast gathering. We’re especially grateful that a new member, ChanLing joined us today, making the time even more meaningful as we shared our lives and encouraged one another in Christ.

It’s not always easy for men to come together like this, but we thank God for this precious opportunity. May gatherings like this continue to be a blessing to even more brothers!

Thank you to everyone who came—it was such a joy to connect with you. Already looking forward to the next meeting! If you couldn’t make it this time, we hope to see you next time!

오늘 아침 Men's Breakfast 두 번째 모임을 가졌습니다. 새로운 멤버 찬링이 함께해서 더 좋은 시간이 되었고, 하나님 안에서 서로의 삶을 나누고 격려할 수 있어 너무 감사했습니다. 남성들이 함께 모여 신앙과 삶을 나누는 자리가 쉽지 않지만, 앞으로도 이런 모임들이 더 많아지고 보다 많은 남성들게 복이 되는 시간이 되기를 소망합니다!

At last, we had our very first Greenland Men's Breakfast gathering! Four men from Greenland Church came together to kick off this meaningful time of fellowship. Our first and most important project, “Having Breakfast Together,” was successfully achieved. The next goal? Visiting more great breakfast spots and “continuing to Have Breakfast Together.” 😊

As we spend time together, we hope and pray that we can organically discover ways to fulfill our roles as men of God in meaningful and impactful ways. For our first breakfast, Edward kindly and graciously served us. Next up, Paul Estey has volunteered to serve for the second breakfast gathering. I think we might have to pick a pricier spot next time! 😄 Please let more men know we are going to have the second breakfast together soon~

I’m excited to see how God will work through the Greenland men as we continue this journey together. Looking forward to the next gathering!

드디어, 그린랜드 Men's Breakfast 첫번째 모임을 가졌습니다. 그린랜드 4명의 남성들과 함께 Greenland Men's Breakfast 를 시작했습니다. 가장 중요한 목표인 <아침식사 함께하기>를 성공적으로 이루었습니다. 그 다음 목표는 아침식사 잘 하는 식당들을 방문하여 <계속 아침을 같이 먹기> 입니다! ㅎㅎㅎ 이렇게 함께 시간을 보내며 하나님의 남성으로서 감당할 수 있는 일들을 자연스럽게 Organic 하게 찾아갈 수 있기를 소망하며 기도합니다! 첫번째 아침식사는 Edward 권사님께서 섬겨주셨습니다. 다음은 Paul 장로님께서 섬겨주시기로 했습니다~ 다음에는 아무래도 비싼 곳으로 가야할 것 같습니다~ ㅎㅎㅎ 그린랜드 남성들과 함께하실 하나님을 기대합니다~~~

A group of men of God gathers once a month for breakfast, sharing stories that inspire them to see through God's eyes, feel with God's heart, and act as God's hands and feet. Originally started by Bob Stewart and Tom Andrew, this gathering has been revived. Groups that are being renewed and revived after the pandemic are rediscovering themselves as communities alive with the life of Jesus Christ. The life of Jesus Christ never dies. Those moved by Him remain vibrant, no matter the circumstances, meeting again to share God’s heart, passion, and hope. There is great anticipation for how this group will fulfill God’s dreams in the future.

하나님의 남성들이 한 달에 한 번 모여서 아침식사를 하고 하나님께서 바라보시는 곳을 바라보고, 하나님의 마음으로 느끼고, 하나님의 손과 발이 될 수 있는 이야기들을 나눈다. Bob Steward와 Tom Andrew의 두 사람으로 시작된 이 모임이 다시 부활했다. Pandemic 이후에 다시 살아나는 그룹들은 여전히 예수 그리스도의 생명으로 움직이는 공동체임을 발견하게 된다. 예수 그리스도의 생명은 절대 죽지 않는다. 예수 그리스도때문에 움직였던 사람들은 어떤 상황에서든 시퍼렇게 살아서 다시 만나고, 다시 하나님의 마음을 나누고, 하나님의 열정을 나누고, 하나님의 소망을 나눈다. 이 그룹이 앞으로 어떻게 하나님의 꿈을 이루어갈지 기대가 된다.
