주께로 가는 이정표A Roadsign to the Lord
저는 제 이름 '길표'를 '주께로 가는 이정표, Roadsign to the Lord'라고 소개합니다. 목사로 살아 보니, 목회란 하나님께로 가는 길을 안내하는 영적 가이드의 삶이더군요. 영어 이름 GIL에도 God Is Love라는 고백을 담았습니다. 어느새 이름이 곧 사명이 되었습니다. 저는 길 끝에 서 있는 사람이 아니라, 하나님께로 가는 길 위에서 그분께 더 가까이 갈 수 있는 길을 가리키며 함께 걷는 동반자가 되고 싶습니다.
I introduce my name, "Gil Pyo," as "a roadsign to the Lord." Living as a pastor, I have found that ministry is the life of a spiritual guide who shows the way to God. In my English name, GIL, I have also placed a confession: God Is Love. Before I knew it, my name had become my calling. I do not want to be someone standing at the end of the road, but a companion on the road to God, pointing to the way that brings us closer to Him and walking it together.
길 위에서 배운 것What I Learned on the Road
제 부르심은 싱가포르에서 시작되어 동남아시아의 선교지로, 미국의 이민교회로, 다시 싱가포르의 한인 디아스포라 교회로 이어졌습니다. 그 뒤 모국에서 하나님의 선교를 가르치는 교수로, 뉴잉글랜드의 미국인 교회로, 그리고 지금은 두 언어로 예배하는 다문화 교회로 이어지고 있습니다. 언어도 문화도 달랐지만 변하지 않는 것이 있습니다. 교회는 건물이 아니라 사람이고, 하나님은 언제나 신실한 사람들을 통해 일하신다는 사실입니다. 저는 지금도 그것을 배워 가고 있습니다.
My calling began in Singapore and led to mission fields in Southeast Asia, to an immigrant church in the United States, and back to a Korean diaspora church in Singapore. From there it continued as a professor teaching the mission of God in my home country, at an American church in New England, and now at a multicultural church that worships in two languages. The languages and cultures were different, but some things never changed: the church is not a building but people, and God always works through faithful people. I am still learning that today.

길 위의 영성A Spirituality of the Road
선교학을 공부하며 예수 그리스도의 생명이 살아 숨 쉬는 '오개닉 교회'를 꿈꾸게 되었습니다. 데이비드 보쉬의 『길의 영성』을 번역하면서는 하나님의 백성에게 필요한 것이 바로 '길 위의 영성'이라는 것을 깨달았습니다. 그래서 오늘도 날마다 만나는 한 사람을 소중히 여기며, 하나님의 부르심과 보내심 속에서 소명과 사명을 따라 사는 사람들을 세워 가는 기쁨으로 살아갑니다.
Studying missiology, I came to dream of an "organic church" where the life of Jesus Christ lives and breathes. Translating David Bosch's A Spirituality of the Road, I realized that what God's people need is exactly that: a spirituality of the road. So each day I cherish the one person I meet, and I live with the joy of raising up people who follow their calling and mission within God's calling and sending.
