"This church is our hometown."

Whenever I hear someone in the U.S. say, “This church is our hometown,” a wave of emotions washes over me. For many living in a foreign land, the place they call “hometown” is not simply a location. It’s where, during seasons of hunger, loneliness, and uncertainty, there were people who cared for them like parents or embraced them like true family. That place becomes home—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.

Now, they’ve become respected college professors, their children are happily attending school, and they return to their spiritual hometown during vacation with a heart full of gratitude. It’s difficult to put into words what it must feel like to leisurely reconnect with the spiritual family who once nurtured them through the toughest times. But their radiant faces say it all. They are overflowing with gratitude, acknowledging that it was because of such a family that they’ve come this far.

Those who live away from their homeland often carry a deep sense of loneliness. Communicating in a foreign language and adjusting to different customs can leave one feeling a sense of displacement that’s hard to explain. So when someone embraces you as family in such a season, that bond becomes precious. The longing to see them again becomes a joy too deep to hide.

Dear Eunsang JSN, just seeing how joyful and happy you look being back at your home church and reconnecting with your spiritual family—it brings me so much joy as well. I can only imagine how full your heart must be! Watching your family rejoice and be refreshed has stirred a new dream in my own heart. I dream of seeing more families here in Greenland experience what it truly means to become part of God’s family—just like yours. Thank you for showing us what genuine joy looks like. I pray the rest of your family trip overflows with even greater joy and blessing!
