<The Devotional Life in the Wesleyan Tradition>
The kind of leader most urgently needed in today’s increasingly challenging Christianity is the Lay Leader. Those who realize their Christian identity as <The Call to be Sent> are no longer merely receivers of spiritual supply, but live thoughtfully and intentionally to pour out what they have received to others.
In this time, it is especially urgent that the spiritual consumers—shaped by Christendom—be trained and transformed into spiritual providers. As the Scripture warns, many have become _“hearers only, deceiving themselves”_ (James 1:22). But now we are called to repent of such a life and to walk together as co-laborers in the mission of God (Missio Dei), who has called us in order to send us.
I bless those fellow workers who have recognized God’s ultimate calling and who have dedicated their time, resources, energy, and passion to walk this journey together. My prayer is that, though this path may sometimes feel awkward or difficult, we will continue to walk it long and faithfully—together.
