Day 10.
Day 10. The Heart of Worship
When I consider the word surrender — not merely as defeat, but in its fullest sense, as the act of releasing everything and placing your whole self into another's hands — I find myself wanting to surrender to God completely. Because what I long for now is to lay down my own dreams and hopes before Him, and to surrender so that His will, His hopes, and His dreams might be fulfilled in and through my life. If that is what surrender means, then I am ready to surrender without reservation.
When you truly love someone, you willingly set aside your own desires and wishes. For the sake of what they want, for the sake of what brings them joy, you lay down what is yours — and you do it gladly. Isn't that the kind of surrender anyone would want to offer? I want to give exactly that kind of surrender to God — with even greater joy than I have ever known.
1 John 4:9–11 (NIV)
⁹ This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
¹⁰ This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
¹¹ Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
