Discernment
One of the most essential qualities needed to live as a person of God is discernment. This is because we desire to live a life that pleases God by discerning His will, His timing, and the ways in which He works.
Today’s reading from Deep-Rooted Spirituality suggests that discernment is closely related to patience. To encounter God’s timing—Kairos—we must go through a period of waiting with patience. Romans 12:2 teaches us that we can discern God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will when we refrain from conforming to the patterns of this world and instead undergo transformation by the renewing of our minds. In other words, if we fill ourselves with the things of this world, we will not be able to discern God’s will. Instead, we must constantly renew our hearts with God’s Word in order to gain discernment. It is when we allow ourselves to be transformed by the living Word of God that we can clearly understand His will.
May we continually fill our hearts with God’s Word so that we are renewed daily, allowing our discernment to grow and enabling us to live each day in alignment with His perfect will.
[Romans 12:2] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
<분별력>
하나님의 사람으로 살아가면서 간절히 필요한 것중의 하나가 바로 <분별력>일 것이다. 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 있는지, 하나님의 때는 언제인지, 하나님의 일하시는 방식이 무엇인지를 분별하여 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 삶을 살아가고 싶기 때문이다.
오늘 <뿌리깊은영성>의 내용을 보면 <분별력>은 <인내>와 관련이 깊어 보인다. 내가 원하는 때를 지나서 하나님의 때 <카이로스>를 만나기 위해서는 인내해야 하는 시간이 반드시 필요하기 때문이다. 로마서 12장 2절 말씀을 보면 우리는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받을 때에 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별할 수 있다고 말씀하신다. 다시 말하면, 이 세상의 것으로 우리를 채워서는 하나님의 뜻을 분별할 수 없다는 것, 하나님의 말씀으로 우리의 심령을 늘 새롭게 해야 하나님의 뜻을 분별할 수 있다는 의미이고, 그 살아계신 하나님의 말씀으로 내 자신이 변화를 받을 때에 하나님의 뜻을 분별할 수 있다고 말씀하신다.
이렇게 우리 심령에 하나님의 말씀을 지속적으로 채워 늘 새롭게 함으로 변화될 때에 하나님의 뜻을 매일 매일 분별력이 향상되는 삶을 살아갈 수 있기를 소망한다.
