Lenten Walking Together. Day 20. "Solitude"

Solitude with God

In our spiritual journey, we sometimes experience loneliness, feeling as if we stand alone. Yet, a person of God should realize they are not standing alone, but rather standing before God. From a human perspective, this might be described as "standing on one's own." However, the Christian worldview teaches us that "when no one is watching me" actually means "only God is watching me." Even while living among others, the time when we face God alone through His Word, coming to know Him and ourselves more deeply, is truly a "private audience with God."

Today, Chapter 20 of "Deep-Rooted Spirituality" describes this private audience with God as "solitude." It speaks of how "time alone with God" grows and matures us. This "solitude time" is precisely when God shapes us meticulously. Rather than feeling lonely during times of solitude from a human perspective, when we regard it as holy face-to-face time with God and enjoy deep communion with Him, we grow and mature into beings that please God.

Remember that the lives of God's people are transformed through exclusive encounters with Him. May we delight in our daily private audience with God and experience the grace of being transformed into beings that please Him.

Genesis 12:1 - "Abraham"
"The LORD had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.'"

Genesis 32:30 - "Jacob"
"So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, 'It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.'"

Exodus 33:11 - "Moses"
"The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent."

1 Samuel 3:10 - "Samuel"
"The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.'"

"People become deeper when they meet profound individuals."
