If someone asks me why the way of life and ministry for Christians is "service," my answer is simple: Because Jesus said so, and because that's how He lived.
[Matthew 20:28]
"Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
[John 13:14-15]
14 "Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."
This act of serving shouldn't be seen as a give-and-take exchange. It shouldn't be approached with a worldly mindset like, "I served you once, now it's your turn to serve me." Instead, Jesus' way of serving must be a "one-way." Only then will true serving flow freely.
Service isn't only the lifestyle and method of ministry for Christians, but also the way God's message is delivered. The message of God is most powerfully communicated through a life lived as a good example. "Teaching by Example" was exactly how Jesus delivered His message. When we proclaim the message through "Show & Tell," demonstrating a genuine example of service, it will leave the deepest impression in people's hearts.
It is my sincere hope that we may all follow Christ’s example, living out the way of , and spreading the example and fragrance of Jesus Christ throughout the world.
그리스도인들의 삶의 방식과 사역의 방식이 왜 "섬김"이냐고 물으면 내답은 간단하다. 이유는 예수님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨고, 그렇게 사셨기 때문이다.
[마태복음 20:28] 인자가 온 것은 섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 하고 자기 목숨을 많은 사람의 대속물로 주려 함이니라
[요한복음 13:14-15]
14 내가 주와 또는 선생이 되어 너희 발을 씻었으니 너희도 서로 발을 씻어 주는 것이 옳으니라
15 내가 너희에게 행한 것 같이 너희도 행하게 하려 하여 본을 보였노라
이 섬김은 또한 주고 받는 give & take 가 되어서는 안될 것이다. 내가 한 번 섬겼으니 이번에는 네가 섬기라는 식의 세상적인 원리로 적용해서는 안될 것이다. 예수님의 섬김의 방식은 "일방통행" 이어야 한다. 그래야 섬김이 흐르기 때문이다.
<섬김> 은 그리스도인의 삶과 사역의 방식일 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 메세지의 전달 방식이기도 하다. 하나님의 메세지를 닮은 삶은 좋은 본이 되어 전달될 때에 가장 강력하다. Teaching Be Example 이 바로 예수님께서 메세지를 전달하신 방식이었다. '섬김의 본'을 보여주어 Show & Tell 의 방식으로 메세지가 선포될 때 사람들의 마음속에 가장 강력하게 남을 것이다.
우리 모두가 그리스도의 본을 받아 <섬김>의 도를 살아내어 세상 가운데에 에수 그리스도의 본과 향기를 남기며 살아갈 수 있기를 소망한다.
