At least once in life, everyone dreams of becoming a flower—beautiful, fragrant, admired, and the center of attention. We long to be noticed, loved, and even envied. Yet the Bible reminds us repeatedly that God does not look at outward appearance, but at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7).
Today’s passage goes even further: God is not looking for flowers—He is looking for fruit. That fruit is expressed through a mature character, and such maturity is revealed through the fruit of the Spirit.
[Galatians 5:22–24]
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Character is not something we can fully see or evaluate with human eyes. No one can truly know the motives or intentions hidden deep within another person. But God sees it all.
Character is who we truly are. It is the part of us that only God can see—and yet it is what matters most to Him.
My prayer is that we would become the kind of people who bring a smile to God’s eyes and delight to His heart—not by how we appear to others, but by the Spirit-formed fruit growing within us.
인간은 누구나 한 번 쯤은 "꽃이 되는 꿈"을 꾸어봤을 것이다. 화려하고 향기로우며 많은 사람들의 주목을 받으며 관심과 선망의 대상이 되길 꿈 꾼 적이 있을 것이다. 그러나 성경은 여러차례 하나님은 외모를 보시지 않으시고 우리의 중심, 내면을 보신다고 말씀하신다(삼상16:7). 오늘 말씀에서는 '꽃'이 아니라 '열매'를 보신다고 말씀하신다. 그 열매는 '성숙한 인격'으로 나타나는 것이고, 그 성숙한 인격이란 열매는 성령의 열매를 맺는다는 말씀이다.

- 22 오직 성령의 열매는 사랑과 희락과 화평과 오래 참음과 자비와 양선과 충성과
- 23 온유와 절제니 이같은 것을 금지할 법이 없느니라
- 24 그리스도 예수의 사람들은 육체와 함께 그 정욕과 탐심을 십자가에 못 박았느니라
인격은 인간의 눈으로 볼 수도 알 수도 없다. 사람은 그 심령깊은 곳에 어떤 동기와 마음이 있는지 알 길이 없다. 그러나 하나님은 아신다. 인격은 우리의 존재라고 할 수 있는데, 바로 하나님만 보실 수 있다. 그 하나님의 눈과 입가에 웃음을 지으실 수 있는 존재가 되기를 소망한다.
