도미니카공화국 몬떼야노에 있는 필라델피아 교회에서 지역 아이들을 위한 '미니 여름성경학교'를 섬겼습니다.
이 교회는 황헬렌선교사님께서 섬기는 교회이기도 하며, 통역자 장삐에로와 함께 청년들을 향한 사역을 하고 있습니다. 이번 그린랜드 선교팀이 섬겼던 '미니 여름성경학교'때에도 장삐에로형제의 통역으로 아이들에게 말씀을 선포하고, 아이들과 함께 찬양과 율동으로 예배를 드릴 수 있었습니다. 현지에 이런 신실한 하나님의 동역자가 있다는 것은참으로 감사할 뿐만 아니라 이 교회의 밝은 미래를 더 꿈꾸며 소망하게 됩니다!
십계명
우리가 사랑하는 사람의 말은 소중히 여기며 그대로 지키려고 최선을 다하듯이, 하나님을 사랑한다면 하나님의 말씀을 잘 듣고 기억하여 그 말씀을 살아내도록 힘써야 한다는 메시지를 나눴습니다. 그리고 만들기활동으로 아이들에게 '십계명' 한 계명 한 계명을 나무스틱에 적으며 마음에 하나님의 말씀을 마음에 깊이 새기는 시간을 가졌습니다.
청년들을 위한 기도제목
필라델피아 교회는 약 25명의 청년부가 있습니다. 그 중 약 80%가 직업을 가진 청년들입니다. 일을 하고 생계를 꾸려나가는 것이 정말 귀하고도 감사한 일이지만, 동시에 그것이 복음 앞에 마음 문을 여는 것을 더 어렵게 만들기도 합니다. 스스로 삶을 꾸려가고 있다는 자립심이 감사하지만, 때로는 하나님을 향한 간절함을 밀어내기도 하기 때문입니다.
매주 주일 오후 3시 반부터 5시 반까지, 청년들은 함께 모여 나눔과 교제의 시간을 갖고 있습니다. 작은 모임이지만, 이 시간이 이 청년들에게는 한 주간의 쉼터가 되고, 서로를 붙들어주는 공동체가 되어가고 있습니다. 그러나 기도를 부탁드리고 싶은 것은 이 청년들이 주일을 온전히 지킬 수 있도록 중보를 부탁드립니다. 오후 청년 모임만이 아니라, 주일 예배가 그들의 삶에 중심이 되기를 소망합니다. 주일 예배를 지켜야 한다는 것, 그것이 신앙의 삶에서 얼마나 소중한지를 지금 함께 인내하며 가르쳐가고 있습니다. 25명의 청년들이 모두 주일을 사모하고, 예배 안에서 하나님을 만나는 날이 오기를 오늘도 기도합니다.
In Montellano, Dominican Republic, there is a church where we worship together — Philadelphia Church. This is a congregation served by Missionary Helen Hwang, and alongside our faithful interpreter Jean-Pierre, ministry among the youth continues to take root and grow.
During the Mini Vacation Bible School led by the Greenland Mission Team, Jean-Pierre served as our interpreter as we proclaimed the Word to the children, and together we worshipped through songs and praise dances. Having such a faithful, God-given co-worker on the ground is something we are deeply grateful for — and it fills us with bright hope for the future of this church!
Prayer Requests
Philadelphia Church has a young adult group of approximately 25 young people, and around 80% of them are employed. While having work and building a livelihood is truly a gift worth celebrating, it also presents a quiet challenge: it can make it harder for the gospel to find its way into their hearts. The independence that comes from providing for oneself is something to be thankful for — yet it can sometimes crowd out a deeper longing for God.
Every Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, the young adult gather to share fellowship and encourage one another. It may be a small gathering, but for these young people, it has become a weekly refuge — a community where they hold each other up through the week.
And yet, our deeper prayer is this: that these young people would come to fully honor the Lord's Day. Not merely by attending the afternoon young adult gathering, but by placing Sunday worship at the very center of their lives. Week by week, with patience and love, we are teaching them how precious it is — in a life of faith — to keep the Sabbath holy.
We pray that all 25 of these young people would come to long for Sunday worship, and that each one would encounter God there in a way that transforms everything.
