치치구아는 제가 온 마음으로 사랑하는 마을입니다.
이곳의 아이들은 태어나서 2살이 되면 <조이 프레스쿨(Joy Preschool)>에 오고, 5살이 되면 유치원을 졸업해 공립학교로 나아갑니다. 그리고 공립학교로 떠날 때, 저희는 아이들과 1대1 아동 결연을 맺어 졸업 이후에도 계속 관계를 이어갑니다. 아이들이 우리 손을 떠났다고 해서 우리 마음도 떠나는 것은 아니기 때문입니다.
무엇보다, 찌찌구아는 제가 청소년 아이들과 함께 집중 사역을 펼쳐가는 마을입니다. 처음 이 아이들을 만났을 때가 아직도 생생합니다. 웃는 아이가 없었습니다. "꿈이 뭐야?"라고 물어봐도 대답하는 아이가 없었습니다. 자신의 신분 문제도 있었지만, 무엇보다 아이들은 충분히 많은 것을 경험해보지 못했기 때문에 내가 무엇을 좋아하는지, 무엇을 잘하는지조차 몰랐습니다.
그런 아이들과 함께한 지 이제 3년이 넘었습니다. 그리고 지금, 그 아이들에게는 꿈이 생겼습니다.
저희는 유스 아이들과 함께 영어 수업을 진행하고 있고, 영어를 잘하는 아이들에게는 프랑스어도 가르치고 있습니다. 또 여름마다 찾아오시는 선교팀과 함께 태권도, 음악, 미술 사역도 이어가고 있습니다. 그 시간마다 저도 놀라고, 아이들도 서로 놀랍니다. 자기 안에 그런 달란트가 있는 줄 몰랐던 아이들이, 그것을 함께 발견해나가는 것입니다. 그렇게 꿈이 생기고, 자신감이 생겨갔습니다.
기도제목
찌찌구아에는 약 45명의 어린아이들이 있습니다. 저는 이 유스 아이들이 그 어린아이들에게 진정한 롤모델이 되어주기를 소망하며 기도합니다. 하나님이 저를 언제까지 이 땅에 두실지는 모르지만, 그렇기에 더욱 이 유스 아이들이 스스로 다음 세대를 이끌어갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.
작년 여름부터는 선교팀이 방문해 VBS 사역을 할 때, 유스 아이들이 직접 어린아이들을 돌보는 역할을 맡기 시작했습니다. 처음으로 "선생님"이 된 아이들의 얼굴에서 뿌듯함과 자부심이 느껴졌습니다. 그 아이들이 선교팀이 섬기는 모습을 보고, 섬김이 무엇인지를 가슴으로 배워가고 있습니다.
이것은 시간이 많이 걸리는 사역입니다. 그러나 저는 확신합니다. 하나님은 이 유스 아이들을 사랑하시고, 반드시 그들을 하나님 나라의 일꾼으로 크게 사용하실 것이라는 믿음이 제 안에 있습니다.

Chichigua is a village I love with all my heart.
Children here begin their journey at our Joy Preschool at age two, and by age five, they graduate and move on to public school. When they make that transition, we make sure to connect each child with a one-on-one sponsorship — because our relationship with them doesn't end at graduation. These children carry a piece of our hearts wherever they go.
Above all, Chichigua is the village where I pour myself most deeply into youth ministry. I still remember the first time I met these young people. Not one of them smiled. When I asked, "What's your dream?" — silence. Not because they were shy, but because many of them had never been given the chance to explore what they loved or what they were good at. Questions of identity, limited opportunities, and a life of going unnoticed had left them without an answer.
That was over three years ago. Today, these same young people have dreams.
Together, we offer English classes, and for those who excel, we go further with French. Through summer mission teams, we have added Taekwondo, music, and art to what we do together. And every time we gather for these activities, something remarkable happens — we are surprised together. Talents that were buried and unknown begin to surface. Confidence grows. Dreams take root.
Prayer Requests
Chichigua is also home to about 45 younger children. My deepest prayer is that the youth of Chichigua would become true role models for these little ones. I don't know how long God will keep me here, and that is exactly why I want to invest in the youth — so that they themselves can carry this village forward.
Since last summer, when mission teams come to serve through Vacation Bible School, I have begun entrusting the youth with the role of caring for the younger children. Watching them step into that responsibility — seeing the pride and joy on their faces as they become the teachers — has been one of the greatest gifts of this ministry. More than anything, I hope they will watch the mission teams serve with such love and carry that spirit of servant leadership in their own hearts.
This is a slow ministry. It asks for patience and a long view. But I believe — with full conviction — that God loves these young people deeply, and that He will use them as powerful workers in His kingdom.
