Today, Missionary Helen showed us the immigrant village of Aditi where the church and school she pioneered are thriving, explained each mission taking place there, and during our Q&A session, she detailed the importance of each ministry and showed us how we can participate in missions. Thank you once again, Missionary Helen!

It's been so long since I've worked up a sweat doing something like this... What a truly joyful and fulfilling day it was. Finally, D-day.
Thinking back on the orientation we received yesterday from Missionary Helen—about the expected number of children at each of the three schools we would visit, the art activity materials prepared accordingly, and the proper attitude toward the children—we arrived at the first school. It was a place where even a single plastic bag or a piece of paper tape was precious. How carelessly we'd bought, used, and discarded educational materials all this time. The missionary taught us, and we felt firsthand, that nothing is insignificant in the mission field. All team members united as one, sweating buckets as we prepared. Thanks to this, we gradually improved, and at the third school, we even had a meaningful time where the young children read along with the Ten Commandments.
Though it was only a single day of hands-on experience in the mission field, we witnessed our own growth step by step—overcoming hurdles, helping each other, uniting, collaborating with local teachers. Our mutual understanding and gratitude deepened, and by the end, we felt a closer camaraderie with the missionary, the driver, and all team members.
Meeting and experiencing the children directly gave us a glimpse, however small, of the reality of educational mission work the missionary spoke of yesterday. It was a precious time when the stories of missionaries, read countless times in writing and heard innumerable times in sermons, came alive as a moving reality.
I also came to know each team member's unique talents. I was especially surprised to discover the latent strengths and leadership potential in each person, particularly Olivia, Gunwoo, Aaron, and Vicky. I saw the tremendous potential that emerges when the strengths of teammates united by the same purpose come together.
The rainbow we saw yesterday and today, before and after visiting the school, was more beautiful than any I've ever seen in my life. It felt like a message that God planned and watched over our journey. I am grateful to Missionary Helen and Pastor for creating this time and opportunity filled with learning, awakening, and discovery, laying the foundation for participating in missions.

Here is the English translation:
Hallelujah!!
Every single person — how
precious each one is…
For me, this was my first time
traveling outside the United States
to another country.
The fact that my very first trip abroad
was to a mission field made it
all the more joyful and meaningful.
No matter how beautiful or bright they are,
without legal status they cannot go to school,
and the power goes out so often —
hot and muggy in the heat —
yet even in such poverty and scarcity,
they come to worship in their finest clothes.
The men, even in the sweltering heat,
dressed sharply in suits,
presenting their very best selves before God.
Watching them, I could feel
the heart of Jesus —
weeping over them with joy,
and also with deep longing and grief.
Difficult circumstances, yet smiling,
with pure and open hearts.
A few of us gathered at the early morning sea,
and as we wept and prayed over them,
grace overflowed in us.
Missionary Helen —
Wow… her beauty inside and out,
and where does that boldness come from?
I truly admire her,
and I find myself envying and treasuring
that beautiful, genuine faith.
Vicky, Gunwoo, Aaron, and Olivia
were with us — so precious and dear,
our young rising stars of Greenland.
When they helped the children
with their crafts and activities,
everything came together so naturally,
and I pray their lives will be
made rich and full through God,
and that this mission journey
will become an even more
meaningful time for our young friends.
May my heart be drawn
to wherever God's heart is turned.
Chonye Arnold
Thank you for praying that bold, shameless prayer request. My son is scheduled to be discharged from the hospital today.
From the moment I arrived back home, I've been so busy these past few days — and only today, watching this video, do I feel all the emotions I had been holding down in my chest about to burst.
First, glory to God. And I want to understand the mysterious providence of God who invited us into something like this. It wasn't that I went there to give something to them — rather, they gave so much to me. I believe this vision team will offer their gratitude to God through this experience.
Watching Missionary Helen's ministry, I was deeply moved — she is so beautiful, and I can tell she is exactly the kind of servant God delights in. Spending those few days together, loving one another, sharing, and serving — it was a time of rediscovering just how precious each person on this team truly is.
I felt ashamed and embarrassed looking at myself — living in overflowing abundance, yet so confused by it all. And the faces of those bright, unburdened children are filling my mind and settling deep in my heart.
I am grateful that this mission team became one, and that we were all able to pour out everything we felt together. I don't know how God will use us, but I will keep that place in my heart and continue to pray for it. I will say that all of this is entirely by the grace of God. It truly feels like Romans 8:28 being lived out — that God works all things together for good.
Thank you to our senior pastor, who poured himself out to the point of exhaustion, and to Hyebin, who put together this beautiful video. Having a video like this, so we can revisit and remember those moments, means so much. Thank you all for your hard work.
"Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) Just like last Sunday's message, whether going or sending, it was a word that truly resonated deeply. Through this mission trip, it was a time filled with the love of those who sent us, as we cherished and cared for one another even more. Hospital mission seems to be the true mission field for Green Landers. I pray to God that we may visit the mission field starting today and return safely without incident. And I lift up the task of becoming a pastor. Let's all do our best.

After many twists and turns, we finally arrived in the Dominican Republic. Seeing everyone's smiling faces was truly wonderful. We enjoyed a delicious dinner, then gathered to make goodie bags for the children. Though our opinions differed slightly at times, we finished everything with joyful hearts. I look forward to the three-day journey starting today. Lord, I pray for three days free of accidents, filled with seeing, learning, and feeling, that our lives may change even a little. I entrust everything wholly to You.
Today, I visited the first mission site Missionary Helen started here and was shocked. The place we entered called a church said there was no electricity today, but she said such things happen all the time. On top of that, there was no running water, so we had to use the only toilet available. It felt unsettling needing to use the restroom, but we had no choice but to take turns. Missionary Helen casually mentioned not to flush the toilet, just use it as is. Such things happen all the time. It's astonishing that over 80 people joyfully attend school and church in such a place.
I thought it was too shabby and inadequate, so I went out and walked around the neighborhood. But as I walked around, I realized the church and school were actually quite decent compared to the rest of the neighborhood. What about me? I get anxious just thinking the electricity might go out if it snows a little. Setting everything else aside, Missionary Helen, living and ministering in a place like this, is truly remarkable and worthy of respect. She could have easily lived well in a much better environment, yet she placed her life's hope here. Through this vision mission, I confess I have no right to complain and shouldn't do so.

I’ve felt more and more fulfilled throughout this journey. From deciding to come, to reuniting with my lifelong church congregation, to working so hard together to prepare, and finally making it to our destination. I’m so impressed with everything this team has done together. Packing ( so many) suitcases, carry-ons, and ziploc bags for the children. To Soojin 간사님 for working so hard to make this trip work out. To Pastor Gil updating and motivating us every single day and helping with every step. Every person on this trip has had an essential role in this trip. I pray that God continues to put our hands and hearts together so we can continue working as this wonderful team while we continue our journey, and especially for our big day on Saturday.
What we saw and heard today was definitely not what I expected, to be honest. The conditions the Haitian village experience was admittedly more unfortunate than what I had been picturing, although, I suppose didn’t know what to expect to begin with. I’m now, more than ever, so grateful for what I have and am given at home in the US. We truly are so privileged and have abundant lives compared to many people in this world. Because we have that privilege and ability, I am so happy to be able to provide even a little bit of goods for the Haitian people and children. This is an eye-opening, unforgettable experience that will continually drive me to be thankful for what I have. God Bless Missionary Helene Hwang for the strength, courage, and heart that she has to have made such a honorable difference to this country’s children, and for this world.

Wow, we finally got on the plane to our journey together for missionary to Dominican Republic. All 14 people join us even it Areon. My understanding is that Arean was sick both Monday and Tuesday. God made changes the days so Areon can have the same experience with 13 people. God was watching us from the beginning from Monday through Thursday. When we finally got to the Boston Airport, we all were so excited that we can actually meet up with Dominican Republic people. Thank you God.
Today reminded me of my childhood living in Korean. I also lived like the children we saw today but the difference was that where I lived, we had water, electricity and hope. It really touched my heart when Helene was saying that those children don't have any dreams after their last year of schooling. Luckily, these children often have family, birth mothers, sisters or brothers in the lives. In my case I had no family and for food I only had white rice for breakfast, and dinner. However, we had hope and many children got to go to higher schooling and got adopted to other countries like me. I was very blessed that God let me have a new family in US. However, the family that adopted me did not accept me as their family. But, I can say, I am so lucky to have my Greenland United Methodist Church as the new family God gave me.

I think we are lucky to be at the hotel and to serve the kids in the Dominican Republic. We did all the things together and we are learning how to work together with people who are not familiar to us not because we want to but because Helen Hwang wants us to do it, and God wants us to do it.
---
Today I learned that we are all people but living in different circumstances. I learned that you can be happy with basic needs met. Helene Hwang doesn’t see her kids as unfortunate people but as equals and I admire that.
---
I not only learned how hard it is to take care of a classroom with a lot of young kids. I learned different ways to worship God— dancing, singing, preaching, and simply sharing the love of God to the children by playing and doing the activities with them. I learned that we should check in on each other to make sure we are healthy and to glorify God. Myung also told me to use my talents to the fullest. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” Through all these delays, we didn’t hesitate for a second on what to do after we came here and seeing all the plans we have for the week, truly brings me eagerness and part nervousness too. But I put my faith in God and our team that we can truly learn and make differences during our stay here.

My reflection(Aaron hasn’t sent his yet): Today, simply put, I was really shocked. It made me compare what I had to what they had, and it made me so grateful for what I had. But it also saddened me that for some people, my average is their dream. One thing Helene said to me stuck with me, that with no brith certificate, these people have no hope. This theme of hope really stuck to me and it made me realize that our, what I once thought were very small actions of support, are actually helping them a lot, even if for the time being. And with what I heard today, I want to more than ever go and help the children at the schools we are going to visit tomorrow.
---
Sort of continuing off my thoughts from yesterday, but I really was worried, this morning, whether we’d make these children happy, or whether they would listen to us carefully. But, after visiting three locations, I saw that we really made a difference and brought smiles to their faces. They were always so enthusiastic to be there to praise and listen, along with meeting us too. I was so reassured that we had truly done something, and although that something isn’t curing world inequality, it is something. And that something made these children happy. Overall, today left me with a sense of relief and pride for our role here, and how happy I was for everything to role out smoothly, no matter how exhausted I may have been near the end.

Missionary Helen imparted the most unforgettable and profound lesson. Her constant reference to "our children," planting seeds of faith through her words, and her teaching—forging and training precious children of God from a young age to establish a righteous foundation amidst the difficult circumstances they must endure—resonates deeply within me. The driver, "Datchi," also served us well in grace, and we are grateful for Missionary Helen's devoted efforts. Her teachings and lived example became a wake-up call during our brief visit. Stay well ❤️🙏

Our mission vision trip to the Dominican Republic, with fourteen members from our church, was not smooth from the very beginning.
The trip, originally planned for February 23–26, had to be changed several times due to a snowstorm. Our flights were canceled twice, and we were uncertain whether we would be able to go together at all.
Yet through that entire process, we experienced God’s help more clearly.
The time spent preparing in prayer, feeling disappointed together, and reworking our plans was truly precious. In the end, the schedule was adjusted to February 26–March 1, and our vision trip became, in a sense, a “partial mission trip.”
As the plans changed, we had a better weather, a team member who had been sick but was able to join after all, and the many details that allowed us not just to visit but to participate more closely in ministry, we sensed that God was preparing a mission trip that was more fitting and better than what we had originally planned.
I was especially grateful that our young people were able to taste and experience firsthand what a mission trip truly is.
During the uncertain preparation period caused by the snowstorm, I was deeply moved by how everyone prayed with one heart, hoping that we could all go together. At times, I even found myself in tears, thinking of those who have never known or experienced the joy of being together preparing for something like this.
In the Dominican Republic, we saw the reality of many undocumented Haitians, especially the children.
As I watched Missionary Helen, who has devoted her life with compassion for them, I was reminded of the women missionaries who gave their lives serving in Korea long ago. I also thought of Jessica Wyman, who is dedicating her life to orphaned children in Ukraine.
Are they not all people who responded to God’s calling by saying, “Here I am”?
Spending even a short time with children who grow up bright and pure despite circumstances that could easily lead to complaint was a great blessing.
On Sunday, we attended a worship service conducted in French Creole. Even with the lyrics in front of us, we could not follow along at all. Yet being able to worship together for three full hours in such passionate praise was deeply moving and a special grace.
As I had felt during a short-term mission trip to Costa Rica many years ago, where we assisted missionaries serving undocumented Nicaraguan immigrants, this trip once again allowed me to see that God is actively at work through Missionary Helen. I am simply grateful that we were able, even in a small way, to participate and learn alongside her ministry.
I am especially thankful that fourteen people joined this trip—more than we had expected. Living and serving together, despite our different personalities, strengths, and weaknesses, became a meaningful fruit of this journey. Watching our young people grow and learn through this new experience was particularly encouraging.
As our pastor emphasized during the lay servant seminar, the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19–20) and the command to “love your neighbor” (Matthew 22:37–40) must go together. We were reminded again that fulfilling the mission and loving one another cannot be separated, and that making every effort to protect one another’s hearts is part of what true mission looks like.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our pastor, who initiated and made this mission trip possible.

The university and high school students who joined us this time were so admirable. Seeing them play with the children, hugging them, and giving their all together—it was truly moving. They were better than the adults, who were struggling a bit...😁 They are so, so, so pure and lovely.

The pastor had been planning this mission trip for months. He longed to visit a mission field he hadn't been to before. But on the other hand, various personal matters arose that made leaving impossible, and he actually thought he might not be able to go. There were also changes due to the weather, but upon arriving, he realized God had a reason for not sending him earlier. Finally, with a heart set on the airport, he departed and met the 14-member missionary team traveling with him. They secured all 11 pieces of luggage and waited for the flight, enjoying Deaconess Lim So-mi's love-filled triangular rice balls and Deaconess Park Myeong-suk's boiled eggs before taking off.
Finally arriving, the missionary waiting for us welcomed us warmly and comfortably, like a long-lost relative. Instantly, I thought, "How much hardship must he have endured to be so thin?" Yet, he was a charismatic person overflowing with passion, pouring all his strength into God's work beyond what met the eye.
She could have built a family and lived comfortably like others, but she answered God's call to that remote place. Driven by a sense of mission, she cared for Haitian immigrants and children who had lost their parents without any help from anyone. She took responsibility for so many children alone, nurturing them with a mother's heart. Sometimes she trained and educated these young lives strictly, with absolute faith, and her dedication left a deep impression. If the children were late for church worship, she wouldn't send them in but would train them instead. It felt like she was planting seeds to help them grow into upright children of God. Missionary Helen trained them rigorously so they could stand on their own faith, no matter the circumstances. That's why I believe she will produce many outstanding individuals in the distant future. Bible verses were visible in every home. They must have wanted to engrave God's word in their hearts as they came and went. That passion is truly remarkable.
The ministry field I'd only heard about led us to places we needed to see as we visited churches and neighborhoods. To my eyes, it seemed like a situation lacking in food, clothing, shoes... everything. Yet amidst it all, they seemed to receive God's gospel, live peacefully without complaint. Yet I felt only deep sorrow and regret. People living under the same sky... why must they live like this? I just felt pity. My human thoughts and sympathy pulled at my heartstrings, and tears welled up. My heart ached deeply.
Meeting the children face-to-face, they were so bright, their eyes sparkling, such beautiful little faces. Clear, singing praises, jumping with joy, they seemed to tell me, 'We're fine. God is protecting us.' The missionary's words echoed in my ears: pity alone can never raise children.
Their devotion was truly moving. They dressed their best, in the prettiest, cleanest clothes, giving their whole bodies and hearts in worship, offering praise to God with all their might. (Suddenly, other Korean mission teams disrupted the worship) 😩 I felt truly sorry for those worshiping.
My hope is that many young people (including our son) will go together to serve and minister. Our children, living in difficult circumstances, don't know how to live a life of gratitude. (I think they need to be trained by the missionary and live accordingly.) I truly had a very good mission trip this time. 👏
