Worshipping alongside local believers on the mission field is always something fresh — and something that challenges me in the best of ways. To praise God together with people of different languages, different cultures, different walks of life — through different music, in a different atmosphere — is to taste a kind of passion for God I rarely encounter anywhere else. If I were to describe it through the lens of food, it would be an extraordinary feast laid before the Lord. And if I imagine God as the one true audience of our worship, then this — this gathering of many voices and hearts — feels like the most extraordinary performance of all.
And yet, when I turn to the book of Revelation — to that final, breathtaking scene when Jesus returns and every people, every tongue, every nation lifts its voice to worship God together — I find myself thinking: perhaps this is exactly what that looks like. Each person in their own language. Each body moving in its own way. Every heart pouring out its love, its devotion, its strength — all directed to the One who is worthy.
To imagine that the worship we offer here, in places like this, might be a foretaste of what God dreams of for the last day — for His eternal Kingdom — fills me with an awe I can hardly contain. My prayer is this: that more and more of these kinds of worship gatherings, and more and more of these kinds of worshippers, would fill the earth.
