헬렌은 한국 서울에서 태어나 12세 때 캐나다로 이민을 갔습니다.어린 시절부터 부모님을 따라 교회에 다니기 시작했고, 16세 때 예수 그리스도를 자신의 구주로 영접했습니다. 18세가 되던 어느 특별한 기도의 시간 동안, 헬렌은 하나님께서 자신을 어린이 사역으로 부르신다는 소명을 느꼈습니다. 그녀는 이렇게 고백합니다.
“오늘 저는 제 하나님께로부터 오는 기쁨과 감사와 사랑으로 충만합니다.”
2010년 아이티를 강타한 대지진으로 수많은 생명이 희생되었다는 소식을 접한 헬렌은, 생과 사가 공존하는 그 땅으로 하나님께서 자신을 부르신다는 마음을 받았습니다. 그 후 헬렌은 아이티와 도미니카공화국에서 사역을 시작하며, 이주민 가정의 어린이들을 섬기기 시작했습니다. 그리고 <Joy Foundation(조이재단)>을 설립했습니다.그녀는 복음, 교육, 영양을 통해 도움이 필요한 어린이들에게 하나님의 사랑을 전하고자 하는 비전을 품고 여러 프로그램을 개발했습니다. 헬렌은 이렇게 고백합니다.
“배고픈 아이들에게 빵을 주는 것도 중요하지만, 저는 그들에게 하나님의 사랑의 복음을 먹이고 싶습니다. 저의 작은 헌신이 우리 아이들의 삶을 변화시키길 바랍니다. 오늘 저는 하나님의 축복 속에서 자란 아이들이 미래의 아이티를 변화시키게 되길 기도합니다.”
헬렌이 개발한 여러 사역 가운데 하나는 어린이 후원 프로그램입니다.이 프로그램은 매달 일정한 재정을 통해 75명의 아이티 난민 어린이들을 돕는 사역으로, 2022년부터 <The Fellowship의 Child Sponsorship Program(어린이 후원 프로그램)>의 일부가 되어 지속적으로 진행되고 있습니다.

Helene was born in Seoul, Korea and immigrated to Canada when she was 12-year-old. As a young child she began attending church with her parents and received the Lord as her Saviour when she was 16. It was during a special time of prayer at the age of 18 that Helene felt God calling her into ministry with children. She writes,
“Today, I am filled with joy, thankfulness and love from my God.”
Impacted by the reports following the deadly 2010 earthquake in Haiti that killed thousands in the impoverished nation, Helene felt the Lord leading her to this region of the world where life and death is a way of life. She began ministry in Haiti and the Dominican Republic working with the children of migrants and founded the Joy Foundation. With a vision to provide the Gospel, education, and nutrition to children in need, she has developed a number of programs that benefit these little ones. She writes,
“It is important to give bread to hungry children, but I want to feed them the Gospel of God’s love as well. I hope that my little devotion can change the lives of our children. I pray today that our children who have grown up with God’s blessing will change Haiti in the future.”
Among the various projects that Helene has developed is a child sponsorship program that provides a regular income with which to assist 75 refugee Haitian children who are a part of the day to day projects. This child sponsorship component of Helene’s work became a part of The Fellowship’s Child Sponsorship program in 2022.
