Day 7.
Day 7 — The Reason Everything Exists
"For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen." — Romans 11:36
"Everything exists for Him."
Every time I encounter a statement like this, I am reminded of a question a young person once asked me:
"Isn't God being a little selfish?"
Whenever I receive that question, my answer is always the same:
"Living for God is actually the best thing for you."
To live for God means to center your life around His Word, around what brings Him joy, and around what He holds dear. But does that mean only God benefits from such a life? Not at all. A life lived for God is a life that is good for you — physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. And not only for you — it becomes a life that is genuinely good for the people around you as well.
So much of the discomfort in this world comes from people living only for themselves. But if everyone were to live with love for God and love for their neighbor, what a more joyful and beautiful society this world would be. Perhaps the reason some bristle at the idea of living solely for God is simply that they want to live solely for themselves.
I have come to believe that learning to love God is, at the same time, learning to make this world more beautiful.
