Day 14. 하나님이 멀게 느껴질 때
"우리가 어떻게 느끼든 상관없이 하나님은 존재하신다"
태초에 땅이 혼돈속에 있을 때에도, 공허함에 빠져있을 때에도, 흑암의 깊은 곳에 있을 때에도 하나님의 영이 운행하고 계셨던 것처럼 (창1:2) 하나님은 나의 상황의 좋고 나쁨과 감정의 업스앤다운과 상관없이 늘 우리와 함께 하신다. 때때로 나의 감정과 내 상황의 좋고 나쁨이 하나님의 임재여부를 결정할 때도 있었음을 고백한다. 오늘 책에서 말하고 있는 것처럼 내가 어떻게 느끼든 상관없이 하나님은 존재하신다.

'마음의 겨울'
이렇게 여러 영적거장들이 이런 순간들을 표현한 것을 보면, 이들도 분명히 이런 '인생의 겨울'을 혹독하게 통과했음이 분명하다. 때로는 나만의 상상속에 있는 영적거장들이 나와 동일한 감정을 겪었다는 사실을 발견하는 것도 큰 위로가 된다. 저자가 말하는대로 "우리의 믿음이 성장하려면 꼭 필요한 과정이다"
<질문> 하나님이 멀리 계신 것처럼 느껴질 때, 어떻게 하면 그분이 계시다는 사실에 집중할 수 있을까?
나의 상황의 좋고 나쁨과 상관없이, 내가 하나님의 임재를 느끼거나 느끼지 못하거나 상관없이, 침묵속에서 아무 소리가 들리지 않아도, 폭풍처럼 너무 주변이 요란해도 하나님은 언제나 내 상상을 초월한 방식으로 함께하심을 기억하기를 소망한다.
Day 14. When God Feels Far Away
"God is real, no matter how we feel."
Just as God's Spirit was hovering over the waters even when the earth was formless and empty, even in the depths of darkness (Genesis 1:2) — God is always with us, regardless of whether our circumstances are good or bad, regardless of the ups and downs of our emotions. I confess that there have been times when my feelings and my circumstances became the measure of whether God was present or not. But as today's reading reminds us: God is real, no matter how we feel.

When I see how many great spiritual figures have given name to these kinds of moments, it becomes clear that they too passed through their own brutal winters of the soul. There is something deeply comforting in discovering that the very people I had imagined to be beyond such struggles experienced the same emotions I do. And as the author reminds us, "this is a necessary part of the process if our faith is to grow."
Question: When God feels distant, how can we keep our focus on the truth that He is still there?
My hope is this: that no matter what our circumstances are — whether we feel God's presence or not, whether we hear anything in the silence or find ourselves surrounded by the noise of a storm — we would remember that God is always with us in ways that surpass our imagination.
