Day 15.
Day 15. Born into God's Family
There is something I notice every time I go to a mission field. Even when I meet someone for the very first time, if they believe in Jesus, there is an immediate sense of connection — something that simply clicks. Regardless of the boundaries human beings have drawn — nationality, citizenship, wealth, education, ethnicity, language, culture — there is something that flows between people who have made Jesus the Lord of their lives.
And yet, I also have to be honest: there are times when my own preconceptions and past experiences lead me to form judgments about people before I have even begun to know them. Whenever I catch myself doing this, I am reminded of the need to practice what philosophers call epoché — a suspension of judgment — choosing instead to learn about a new person gradually, only through what is actually revealed in conversation. It is a reminder to stop trying to read what is visible on the outside, and to focus instead on coming to know the inner person — the person of the spirit.
