Day 19.
<겸손>
Day 19. Cultivating Community
Humility
"Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less. Humility means thinking more of others. A humble person is so focused on serving others that they do not think of themselves at all."
We often hear — or say to ourselves — things like: "Isn't this humble enough?" or "I need to be more humble" or "I really should work on my humility." All of these thoughts, I realize, circle endlessly around the same subject: me.
What struck me today through this reading is what I would call the key insight on humility: humility is not about thinking about yourself in a lower way — it is about shifting your thoughts away from yourself altogether and toward others.
That is the turn. That is the difference. True humility is not a posture I strike in relation to myself. It is a reorientation of attention — away from the question of how humble I am, and toward the people in front of me who need to be seen, heard, and served.
