Day 21.
Day 21. Protecting the Church
When I read the phrase "protecting the church," my mind immediately went to the people who love the church and hold it dear — those who pour out their whole heart, strength, and devotion so that the church might stand firm on solid rock, healthy and strong, becoming a place where many souls can come and find rest. And I thought of those who are deeply, genuinely pained when the church faces division or conflict. How precious they are. How irreplaceable.
To become one with others is impossible without someone's sacrifice. For a community to grow and mature in love requires devotion and self-giving — there is simply no other way. The people who understand this and choose to give of themselves anyway are the ones who are truly following in the footsteps of Jesus, who restored our relationship with God through that same kind of sacrifice.
And so we press on — eyes fixed on the one Lord, each of us different in shape and gift, yet listening to the same Father's Word, living in the same Spirit, walking step by step in the same hope, the same purpose, the same love. We must acknowledge that we are all incomplete, all still under construction. We must accept that we all need one another. And in that shared need, we must align ourselves ever more closely to Jesus — walking together as a community that keeps saying yes to that alignment. My hope and prayer is that our lives together, in the Spirit, would be lives spent building exactly that kind of community.
