🍁 Autumn Journey Letter #09 – “Tides and Currents”
Dear Autumn Journey Family,
Another Thursday has arrived—a precious gift from God! As you begin this new day, may you walk with Him and His Word, embracing the new opportunities and graces He has prepared for you.
🌊 Tides and Currents
A few months ago, I went fishing for the very first time in my life. We had to leave at 1 a.m., because, I was told, “You can only catch squid when the tide comes in.” During the day, you can catch mackerel, but at night, when the tide rises, that’s when squid appear. It made me think—“Even catching fish or squid has its own timing!”
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot... He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1–11)
How about your spiritual life these days? Are the Scriptures speaking freshly to your heart? Do songs of praise linger in your mind? Do you find yourself thinking of God more often, or enjoying worship more deeply? Or perhaps—none of these things feel easy right now? Whatever season you are in—it’s okay. Truly okay. Because just as the ocean has both tides and ebbs, our faith also flows through different rhythms.
“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Just as there are the seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter, so there are seasons in our faith—times of abundance, overflow, and dryness. The key is to endure each one faithfully. And as the saying goes, “Row while the tide is high.” When God’s grace flows strongly in your life, don’t let it pass by—pray a little more, meditate a little deeper, serve and give a little further, and let that moment become a time of deeper growth in Him.
“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” (James 5:7–8)
Dear Autumn Journey Family, Our spiritual lives flow like the tides—sometimes full, sometimes still. Yet just as the ocean never disappears, God is always there. When the tide of grace comes in, row with all your heart; when it recedes, quietly strengthen your faith. The Potter is shaping each of our lives beautifully— in His perfect time, in His perfect way. Amen.
With grace and peace, Rev. Gil Lee
