🍁 가을동행 #25 흔적과 여운
사람이 지나간 자리에는 반드시 흔적이 남습니다. 말과 행동뿐 아니라, 그 사람이 주었던 느낌과 감동까지 남습니다. 의도했든 의도하지 않았든, 우리는 모두 삶의 현장 속에 ‘나의 흔적’을 남기며 살아갑니다. 그 흔적은 내가 중요하게 여겼던 가치들이 만들어낸 결과이며, 그 가치들과 씨름했던 시간의 기록이며, 내면 깊은 곳에 자리한 갈증과 갈망이 드러난 표식입니다. 결국, 내가 남기고 싶은 모습이 아니라, 내 안의 ‘진짜 모습’이 흔적으로 남는 것입니다.
사도 바울은 이러한 삶의 진실을 고백하며 이렇게 말합니다.
“이 후로는 누구든지 나를 괴롭게 하지 말라 내가 내 몸에 예수의 흔적을 지니고 있노라”(갈라디아서 6:17)
이 흔적을 또 다른 말로 ‘여운’이라고 표현할 수 있습니다. 누군가와 만나고 헤어진 뒤에도 마음에 계속 맴도는 영향력, 그 사람을 떠올릴 때 남는 분위기와 감정의 잔향입니다. 여운은 꾸며낸 모습으로 남지 않습니다. 마음의 중심에 자리한 사랑, 믿음, 성품, 에너지가 자연스럽게 흘러나와 다른 사람의 마음에 오래 머뭅니다.
따라서 “내 삶에 어떤 흔적과 어떤 여운을 남길 것인가”를 결정하는 일은 결국 “나는 무엇을 진짜로 소중히 여기며 살 것인가”를 결정하는 일과 같습니다. 가치가 방향을 만들고, 방향이 흔적을 만들고, 흔적이 여운을 남깁니다.
오늘도 우리가 지나온 자리마다 말이 아닌 그리스도의 마음, 행동이 아닌 그리스도의 향기, 의도가 아닌 그리스도의 사랑과 진실한 여운이 남는 삶을 살아가기를 소망합니다. 그리고 그 여운이 누군가의 마음을 감동시키고, 위로하며, 하나님께 가까이 가게 하는 흔적이 되기를 기도합니다.
항상 우리를 그리스도 안에서 이기게 하시고 우리로 말미암아 각처에서 그리스도를 아는 냄새를 나타내시는 하나님께 감사하노라 우리는 구원 받는 자들에게나 망하는 자들에게나 하나님 앞에서 그리스도의 향기니 (고린도후서 2:14-15)

🍁 Autumn Journey #25 – Traces and Afterglow
Wherever a person goes, they always leave traces behind. Not only their words and actions, but the impressions, emotions, and quiet feelings they leave in someone’s heart. Whether we intend to or not, we all leave traces of ourselves in the places we walk and in the lives we touch.
These traces are shaped by the values we truly hold, the struggles we have walked through, and the deep desires and longings hidden in our hearts. In the end, it is not the image we want to leave behind, but the truth of who we really are that becomes our trace. The apostle Paul understood this deeply and confessed:
“From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.” (Galatians 6:17)
We might call these traces another word: afterglow. It is the lingering influence that remains even after someone walks away. It is the feeling, the warmth, and the memory that stays in the heart long after the conversation ends. And such afterglow cannot be faked. It comes from the love, faith, character, and spiritual energy that truly live at the center of a person’s heart.
So the question, “What kind of trace and afterglow will my life leave behind?” is really another way of asking, “What do I truly treasure and live for?”
Our values shape our direction. Our direction shapes our traces. And our traces become someone else’s afterglow.
Today, may the places we pass through not carry the scent of our ego or our intentions, but the heart of Christ, the fragrance of Christ, and the gentle afterglow of His love. And may that afterglow comfort someone, encourage someone, and draw someone a little closer to God.
“Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 2:14–15)
