The ultimate goal of the Christian life is to become like Jesus Christ—Jesus the Messiah, our Savior. This is because to be a Christian means to be a disciple of Jesus, to follow Him, and to desire to live a life modeled after His.
That’s why knowing Christ is considered the most precious pursuit (Philippians 3:8). He alone perfects and completes our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and the message we are called to proclaim to each and every person is Christ Himself (Colossians 1:28–29). Moreover, no one can come to the Father except through Jesus (John 14:6).
At the heart of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ. Therefore, the true measure of spiritual maturity is not how much one knows or does—but how much one resembles Jesus.

What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.

예수 그리스도, 그리스도(메시아, 구원자)이신 예수님을 닮는 것이 그리스도인의 삶의 궁극적인 목표이다. 왜냐하면 크리스챤이라는 사람은 예수님의 제자요, 예수님을 따르는 사람들이요, 예수님의 삶을 닮아가고 싶은 사람들이기 때문이다. 그러기에 예수님을 아는 지식을 가장 고상하게 여기는 것이고(빌3:8), 우리를 온전하게 하시는 분은 오직 예수님이시고(히12:2), 그래서 우리가 한 사람 한 사람에게 전하고자 하는 것이 바로 예수님이시기 때문이다(골1:28-29). 또한 예수님을 말미암지 않고서는 하나님아버지께 갈 수 없기 때문이다(요14:6).
신앙생활의 핵심은 "예수 그리스도"께 있다. 그러므로 신앙생활을 잘한다는 기준은 예수님을 얼마나 닮았느냐가 가장 중요한 기준이 되어야 할 것이다!
