Bible Authors

Last week, a few people told me, “I’ve been quietly receiving and being blessed by your Walking Together in Autumn letters.” I didn’t even know that some of them were reading my letters, so hearing that was truly moving and deeply encouraging. To know that someone has been touched or inspired through my writing reminded me once again of how great a joy it is to a writer when their words reach another heart. To all of you who have been quietly blessed, I want to say thank you — your quiet presence has become a source of great strength and comfort to me. (You’re receiving this one too, right? 😊 I know you’ve been quietly blessed, and I feel a little sorry for making that public… but I was just too thankful not to express it!)
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (Philippians 1:3–5)
Now two weeks have passed, and we’re beginning the third week already. Time seems to be flying by faster than I can count. Each day feels more and more precious beyond description. As of today, this is the 11th letter of Walking Together in Autumn. If you ever feel a little tired of reading, please feel free to take a break — and when you have a bit of calm, come back and read slowly. My prayer is that through these letters, you may rediscover the spiritual space and gentle rhythm that allow you to rest and breathe again. I believe that having this kind of margin in life makes for a truly good and meaningful life.
“Then the Lord replied: ‘Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.’” (Habakkuk 2:2–3)
In fact, the sixty-six books of the Bible can all be seen as letters from God. Especially in the New Testament, the thirteen Pauline epistles — from Romans to Philemon — are letters written by the Apostle Paul to the believers of his time. Paul, a devoted servant of God’s kingdom, wrote these letters to encourage and guide the faithful. Of course, I would never compare myself to Paul, but I do believe that the reflections and thoughts written by the people of God for one another — about God, faith, and life — are what eventually became the Scriptures we now hold in our hands.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17)
I believe that the faithful people living today are, in a way, writers of Scripture for this generation. In my own words, they are “those who record and share the stories of God at work in their lives, and the sacred emotions born from their relationship with Him.” Just as the inspired writings of those in the past allow us to know God today, I pray that we too — as modern-day storytellers of faith — may leave behind our own collection of sacred stories, so that future generations might come to know God through our stories — The Greenlanders’ Stories.
“This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21:24–25)
May you walk with the Word and with the Lord today, and may your heart be filled with the heavenly joy that this world cannot give.
