[Matthew 5:8] “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Mature Spirituality – A Spirituality with Clear Vision
Mature spirituality is marked by clear spiritual vision.
Someone with good spiritual sight sees with the eyes of God—able to look beyond what is visible and discern what is unseen.
This includes the rare ability to see one’s own selfishness and sinfulness, even when others cannot.
Just like Peter, who, after encountering Jesus, fell to his knees and cried,
“Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” (Luke 5:8),
or Abraham, who said,
“I am nothing but dust and ashes” (Genesis 18:27),
or the Apostle Paul, who called himself
“the worst of sinners” (1 Timothy 1:15),
those who are pure in heart begin to see with God’s eyes, and perceive what cannot be seen by natural sight (Matthew 5:8).
As today’s reading reminds us, seeing only the big, obvious sins in our lives is not a sign of sharp vision.
True spiritual maturity is when we can also perceive the small, subtle, and hidden sins within us.
That is the mark of one who sees clearly in the Spirit.
Today’s Prayer
Lord,
May Your Word sharpen my spiritual vision today.
Let me see what You see, in myself and in the world around me.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
<오늘의 기도>
