The term “bucket list” became widely known through the 2007 film “The Bucket List” directed by Rob Reiner. The movie follows two men who write down the things they want to do before they die and set out on a journey, crossing off each item one by one.
In life, there are countless things we want to do, see, and accomplish. Yet no one can do everything they desire. That is why we arrange our priorities and start with what matters most.
Our spiritual journey also needs this kind of prioritized “bucket list”—or, in my words, “staff verses”. A believer does not stumble because they fail to complete Bible reading plans or because they did not fast enough. More often, they fall because when discouragement, spiritual dryness, or disappointment strike, they do not have a Scripture—a “staff”—strong enough to lift them back up. They have not yet experienced the power of a verse that carried them through a difficult moment, so they do not know how to rise again through the Word.
Now we are only five days away from completing the 2025 Autumn Journey. In these remaining days, rather than trying to gather more information, I hope you will joyfully identify and collect the “bucket list verses” you desire to live out and experience deeply in your life. May each person discover the joy of filling their life with such treasured Scriptures.
And as you move through today’s many moments—meetings, conversations, unexpected events—I pray that you will encounter a verse that grips your heart and holds you close to God. May those verses become like the twelve stones at Gilgal—sacred reminders, catalysts of faith, and markers of God’s presence in your story.
“And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. He said to the Israelites, ‘In the future, when your descendants ask their parents, “What do these stones mean?” tell them, “Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.” For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what He had done to the Red Sea… He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.’” (Joshua 4:20–24)
