— “Holiness” is “Having One Heart”
James 1:7–8
7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
The most frequent and difficult moments in life are often the moments of conflict.
Should I choose this? Or that?
It’s in those moments of indecision—when we are torn between two things—that we feel the most drained.
Today’s passage in James tells us that someone who is double-minded should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. A person with two hearts is described as unstable in all their ways.
This principle is true even in our relationships with people.
If someone says, “I love you… and I also love someone else,” who would be happy with that? No one.
We all long to hear, “I love only you.” That’s the kind of love we want to build a life on.
Our life of faith is no different.
A holy life is a life with a steadfast heart toward God—a heart that is not divided.
Just as God abhors idols and desires that we love Him only, so does He seek our undivided devotion.
Sometimes, we may think that seems selfish. But in truth, it’s for our good.
It’s the way God has designed us to live most joyfully and freely.
Deuteronomy 10:12–13
12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
13 and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Today’s Prayer
Lord, help me live this day with a heart that loves You above all else.

거룩은 한마음을 소유하는 것이다
[야고보서 1:7-8]
7 이런 사람은 무엇이든지 주께 얻기를 생각하지 말라
8 두 마음을 품어 모든 일에 정함이 없는 자로다
사람이 살아가면서 가장 자주 가장 어려운 순간들은 '갈등하는 순간' 일 것이다. 이것을 선택할까? 저것을 선택할까? 하는 갈등하며 선택하지 못할 때가 가장 힘든순간일 것이다. 오늘 야고보서에서도 두 마음을 품은 사람은 주님으로부터 받을 생각을 하지 말라. 두 마음을 품은 사람은 안정적이지 못함을 말씀하고 있다.
그냥 사람과 사람사이도 마찬가지이다. 이 사람도 사랑하고 저 사람도 사랑한다면, 소위 '너도 사랑해'라는 말을 좋아할 만한 사람은 없을 것이다. 사람이라면 '너만 사랑해'라고 말하는 사람과 평생을 함께 하고 싶을 것이다.
신앙생활도 마찬가지이다. '거룩한 삶'이라는 것은 '하나님을 향한 마음이 한결같다'는 것이다. 하나님도 하나님이외에 우상이 있는 것을 싫어하셨던 것처럼, '하나님만' 사랑하길 원하신다. 때론 이기적이지 않나? 라는 생각을 할 수도 있으나, 그것이 결국 나를 위한 일이자, 우리 인간들이 이 땅에서 행복하게 하는 길이라고 말씀하신다.

12 이스라엘아 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 요구하시는 것이 무엇이냐 곧 네 하나님 여호와를 경외하여 그의 모든 도를 행하고 그를 사랑하며 마음을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 네 하나님 여호와를 섬기고
13 내가 오늘 네 행복을 위하여 네게 명하는 여호와의 명령과 규례를 지킬 것이 아니냐
