Living as a person of God and discerning good from evil through His Word is truly challenging. In this book, Pastor Kang Jun-min describes discernment as "setting aside childish ways and becoming mature." Looking at scripture, we find the following guidance on discernment:
- Not being tossed around by every wind of teaching and cunning deception (Ephesians 4:14).
- Knowing that all treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ (Colossians 2:3).
- Recognizing whether a spirit is from God (1 John 4:1–3).
- Correctly handling the word of truth to become a worker who does not need to be ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15).
Reflecting on these passages, I've summarized my understanding of discernment: it is rightly interpreting God's Word to discern whether spirits truly belong to God, thus avoiding deception and cunning temptations, not being swayed by every wind of teaching. It also involves recognizing clearly that all wisdom and knowledge find their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
Through our journey together this Lent, I sincerely hope that we might experience God's Word more deeply, richly encountering His wisdom and growing ever stronger in the grace of discernment.
