As Iโve been writing these Autumn Journey letters each day, I keep realizing something precious: there are countless treasures hidden within me. And along with that, Iโm reminded again and again that God has planted so many gifts throughout my life. When I take the time to look a little deeper, a little closer, and a little longer, I begin to notice things continually emergingโalmost as if this journey has no end.
This is not just true for me. Every person carries God-given treasures and gifts within their lives. The difference lies in how much attention we give them, how intentionally we discover them, and how faithfully we cultivate them into something meaningful and useful. These choices shape the fragrance and character of our lives.
Recently, Iโve been thinking often about Na Tae-jooโs poem โGrass Flower.โ Itโs a short but striking poem:
โLook closely, and youโll see it is beautiful. Look longer, and youโll see it is lovable. You are the same.โ
When we look closely and linger longerโwith people, with moments, and even with ourselvesโwe begin to discover the lovable parts that were always there.
As we continue the remaining days of 2025 Autumn Journey, I pray that we will look deeply and patiently at our inner selvesโour spiritual self, our unseen thoughts, and our quiet emotions. And as we look, may we discover the treasures God has planted within us, and enjoy the joy of heaven that comes with such discovery.
โAgain, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls. When he found one pearl of great value, he went away, sold all he had, and bought it.โ (Matthew 13:45โ46)
A โtreasureโ is something whose value far exceeds the time, resources, or energy we invest in it. Such treasures never come cheaply. What we gain without effort rarely feels precious. Sometimes we must walk paths that require sweat, perseverance, and even courage. Yet once found, the treasure belongs entirely to the one who sought itโwith a joy that only they can fully experience.
Today, may you discover the treasures God has hidden in your lifeโespecially those you have not yet seenโthrough Scripture meditation. These treasures carry an eternal value far greater than anything we invest. They are not like vending machine drinks that appear instantly when a coin is inserted. They are given through the spiritual labor of holding the Word, pondering, questioning, and wrestling with it throughout the day.
The joy that comes from such discovery belongs only to those who have labored in Scripture. My prayer is that today will be a day when you taste the fruit of that spiritual laborโ and find the treasure God has prepared just for you.
