Day 3.

Day 3 — The Driving Force of Life

"A man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder." — Thomas Carlyle

Hebrews 6:19 offers us a beautiful metaphor: "hope as an anchor for the soul." It tells us that when we have hope in Jesus Christ, we need not wander or drift — we can live with direction and steadiness. A life without something to look toward, without a focal point, is a life that simply does not know where to go. It is like having a car with no destination and no map — you may be moving, but you have no idea where you are headed.
I find myself once again sensing the need to clarify and sharpen the purpose and focus of my own life. Just as every home has things that need to be cleared out, there are things in my life as well that need to be sorted through — so that I might live with greater simplicity and deeper focus. That is my hope, and that is my prayer.

Hebrews 6:19–20 (NIV)

¹⁹ We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,
²⁰ where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
